Drop-Ins
(CRC members)

CRC members who wish to participate in a CRC on-the-water practice with a coached program for which they are not registered may do so via the drop-in process.

Instructions

To schedule a drop-in, CRC members may use the drop-in feature on iCrew along with a “Member’s Note to Coach.” CRC members may also notify the relevant coach(es) of their intent to drop in to practice via verbal or written communication. These notifications must be provided by 5:00pm the evening before the applicable practice to be taken into consideration.

For recordkeeping purposes, athletes that wish to drop in must also send an email to icrewhelp@capitalrowing.org.

Policy

CRC members registered for a particular program always receive priority boating over potential drop-ins. Drop ins are always conditional on the approval of the coach, as well as the ability of the coach to support the athlete in the context of the program.

Where acceptable to the coach, and where consistent with CRC principles and policies, CRC members in good standing may drop in on a program for which they are not registered. This privilege is associated with timely payment of membership dues. If the member paid full membership dues, or had membership dues waived, as is the case for coaches/coxswains/CARP athletes, then that member may enjoy up to five drop-ins per season (total across all coached programs that the CRC member may wish to drop into). If the member paid prorated membership dues, then that member may enjoy up to two drop-ins per season (total across all coached programs that the CRC member may wish to drop into).

Instances where a rower from one program is asked by coaches to drop into another program’s practices will not be considered a drop-in for purposes of this policy. These instances may occur to practice race lineups, to evaluate program fit, or to develop specific skills (e.g., facilitate an assessment for independent sculling).
