Juniors Summer
Learn to Row camp

Capital Juniors offers a week-long intro to rowing summer program for rising 7th-10th graders. The camps generally take place in August and announcements regarding registration and dates come out in the spring.

Novices will:

  • Learn the basics of the rowing stroke

  • Learn fundamental rowing topics such as ratio and timing

  • Practice rowing together as a “crew”

  • Gain familiarity with challenging rowing-based workouts and physiology

  • Be introduced to training and racing

  • Learn boat safety, the parts of rowing boats and oars, and how to handle them

  • Learn basic equipment terminology and care

  • Have fun and become connected to a diverse, supportive community of rowers

Cost: $200*
Includes all equipment, t-shirt, snacks / pizza party

Time: Monday–Friday, 9:00am-12:00pm

LocationAnacostia Community Boathouse

Ages: 12-16

A typical practice might include:

  • Stretching

  • Land coaching via demonstration on the erg

  • Light erg sessions to practice technique and body mechanics

  • Rowing on the water as a “crew”

*If you attend a DC public or charter school in Ward 7 or 8, this program is FREE and made possible by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the District Department of Energy and Environment.  Please register here if you meet these requirements.

Session III: August 21-25

Registration is now open for Summer Learn to Row Camp for rising 7th-10th graders (age 12-16). No previous experience is needed. The sessions do not build on each other, so please only register for one session.
