Juniors Summer
Learn to Row camp

Capital Juniors offers 5-day intro to rowing summer programs for rising 7th-10th graders (ages 12-16). The camps generally take place in July and August and announcements regarding registration and dates are made in the Spring.

Novices will:

  • Learn the basics of the rowing stroke

  • Learn fundamental rowing topics such as ratio and timing

  • Practice rowing together as a “crew”

  • Gain familiarity with challenging rowing-based workouts and physiology

  • Be introduced to training and racing

  • Learn boat safety, the parts of rowing boats and oars, and how to handle them

  • Learn basic equipment terminology and care

  • Have fun and become connected to a diverse, supportive community of rowers

A typical practice might include:

  • Stretching

  • Land coaching via demonstration on the erg

  • Light erg sessions to practice technique and body mechanics

  • Rowing on the water as a “crew”

D.C. residents only

Please sign up for only ONE camp. All three camps cover the same information and we want to reach as many students as possible with our camps.

Location: Anacostia Community Boathouse
1900 M St., SE, Washington, DC

Cost: $100
If the youth athlete goes to school in Wards 7 or 8 in Washington, DC, free registration is available for the camp. If your family is going through financial difficulty and you do not live in Wards 7 or 8, limited scholarships are available. Email michelehill@capitalrowing.org if you need financial assistance.
