Adult Learn to Row

Capital Rowing Club, with experienced coaches and volunteers, offers an introduction to the sport of rowing for individuals in the greater Washington, DC area.

Overview

Capital Rowing Club offers two courses to prepare future rowers and no previous experience is needed.

A typical practice might include: stretching, land coaching via demonstration on the erg, light erg sessions to practice technique and body mechanics, rowing on the water as a “crew.”

Both courses are held at the Anacostia Community Boathouse. If you have any questions please email programs@capitalrowing.org.

There are no refunds for these programs. Individuals are encouraged to complete the 2-day “Intro to Team Rowing” course before registering for the 10-day “Learn to Row” course.

Learn to Row

Cost: $450

Time: Saturdays & Sundays 9:00am–12:00pm

Ages: 18–110 (View our Juniors Program options for younger rowers)

The “Learn to Row” course includes 10 class days. Participants will be introduced to the basics of sweep rowing. Although Capital’s 2-day “Intro to Team Rowing” course is not a prerequisite, skills learned during “Intro to Team Rowing” will be reinforced during Learn to Row and the extra instruction time has proven to be very valuable. This course will culminate in participants racing collectively as a full boat down the Anacostia.

Once participants graduate from “Learn to Row,” they are invited to become club members and get more involved with Capital and their new sport. It is important that registrants in the “Learn to Row” course attend ALL class days, especially the first four, to be able to gain the skills needed to continue with novice teams.
